Lucia Carbone is a Senior Professor at Oregon Health & Science University. Her research integrates genetics, epigenetics, and evolutionary genomics to investigate mammalian genome architecture and neurobiology. She has led landmark efforts, including the haplotype-resolved sequencing of six ape genomes and the non-human primate developmental GTEx projects, both published in Nature. Her recent work also explores the epigenetic regulation of spermatogenesis, centromeric transposable elements in gibbon karyotypic variation, and the transcriptomic basis of vocal evolution in frogs. Carbone’s laboratory further examines astrocyte-mediated effects on neuronal development and alcohol dependence, reflecting a broad interest in the molecular underpinnings of neural and reproductive biology.
