Associate Professor of Materials Science and Engineering
Lin Zhou is an Associate Professor of Materials Science and Engineering at the University of Virginia. He earned his B.S.E. from Central South University in 2001 and his Ph.D. from Arizona State University in 2006. His research centers on atomic-scale characterization of advanced nanomaterials, focusing on magnetic skyrmion dynamics, grain boundary migration mechanisms, and defect-mediated plasticity in oxides. Recent publications include studies on topological defect-mediated helical phase reorientation in skyrmion bicrystals (Physical Review Letters, 2025) and oxygen vacancy modulation of plasticity in strontium titanate. He currently leads NSF-funded collaborative research on topologically protected magnetic phases in Heusler alloys, with additional work on superconducting qubit materials and electrocatalytic nitrate reduction.
