Li Mao is a High Senior Professor at The University of Texas MD Anderson Cancer Center. His research focuses on cancer biology, oncogenes, and molecular cancer genetics, with particular emphasis on pancreatic cancer and oral squamous cell carcinoma. Recent work includes developing injectable hydrogels combining photothermal and chemodynamic therapies to induce ferroptosis in oral squamous cell carcinoma, investigating tumor-associated macrophage-induced circMRCKα in hepatocellular carcinoma glycolysis, and examining cancer-associated fibroblast-derived CXCL1 in tumor dormancy. He has also contributed to transcriptomic and metabolomic profiling studies and comprehensive reviews on pancreatic islet cell hormones and gastrointestinal fistula management in necrotizing pancreatitis.
