Lawrence Kwong is a Senior Professor at The University of Texas MD Anderson Cancer Center, where his research focuses on cancer biology, oncology, and molecular genetics. His work centers on the genomic and immunogenomic characterization of biliary tract cancers, including cholangiocarcinoma and gallbladder cancer, with particular emphasis on actionable targets such as FGFR2b, Claudin 18.2, and KRAS allelic variants. His recent publications have identified syndecan-1-targeted therapeutic antibodies that impair macropinocytosis and elicit antitumor immunity in pancreatic cancer, and have defined population-specific immunogenomic alterations in gallbladder cancer with prognostic significance. He has also investigated immunotherapy outcomes in metabolic dysfunction-associated steatotic liver disease-related biliary tract cancer. His contributions include a 2009 award for validating Tacc2 as a candidate melanoma tumor suppressor, supported by $138,000 in funding.
