Katia de Paiva Lopes is a Senior Professor at Rush University. Her research integrates neuroscience, neurogenetics, and genomics to elucidate molecular mechanisms of Alzheimer’s disease and other age-related neurodegenerative conditions. Her current work focuses on the role of structural variants in Alzheimer’s disease risk, plaque-glia niches characterized via spatial transcriptomics, and the human microglia responsome in health and disease. Additional recent studies examine cytokine expression profiles and amyloid beta binding partners in older adult brain tissue, as well as cortical gray matter proteins linked to cerebral amyloid angiopathy. Notably, she works to translate post-mortem brain multi-omics molecular taxonomies of Alzheimer’s dementia to living human cohorts, advancing the field of neurodegeneration and aging.
