Kathleen Carlson is a Senior Professor at Oregon Health & Science University. Her research integrates military psychology, public health, and rehabilitation medicine, focusing on post-traumatic stress disorder, psychological trauma, and hearing loss among veterans. She has also investigated the use of extreme risk protection orders for firearm suicide prevention and the excess healthcare costs associated with non-fatal firearm injuries. Her research includes cost analyses of veteran healthcare and hearing aid acquisition patterns, contributing to injury prevention and veteran reintegration.
