Justin Morris is a Senior Professor at California State University, San Marcos. His research centers on brain-inspired hyperdimensional computing (HDC), machine learning, and intelligent systems engineering, with a focus on energy-efficient on-chip learning and in-memory computing architectures. Recent breakthroughs include Tri-HD, an energy-efficient on-chip learning framework using in-memory HDC, and PIONEER, a highly efficient HDC method employing learned projections. His applied work spans lightweight glioma grading, noise-resilient pressure mat systems for human activity recognition, and AI-based detection of subsynchronous oscillations in wind farms. He has also contributed to public health research, co-authoring a Lancet Regional Health study on wastewater and surface monitoring for COVID-19 detection in elementary schools. His work integrates hardware-software co-design with practical IoT and biomedical applications.
