Jun-ichi Abe is a Professor at The University of Texas MD Anderson Cancer Center, where he leads research at the intersection of vascular biology, cardio-oncology, and cellular senescence. His work focuses on endothelial dysfunction, atherosclerosis, and the mechanistic links between cancer therapies—particularly radiation—and delayed cardiovascular disease. Recent breakthroughs include identifying LATS1/2-CD38 metabolic rewiring as a driver of intraplaque thrombosis and senescence-associated vascular inflammation, as well as developing a visual–omics foundation model bridging histopathology with spatial transcriptomics. His publications span high-impact journals such as Circulation Research, Nature Methods, and Arteriosclerosis, Thrombosis, and Vascular Biology. Recognized as a senior professor, his research integrates immunology, physiology, and cancer biology to inform therapeutic strategies balancing anti-cancer efficacy with vascular protection.
