Julie Schneider is a Senior Professor at Rush University, where her research focuses on neuroscience, neurology, and the neuropathology of aging and dementia. Her work centers on Alzheimer’s disease, cognitive impairment, and molecular neurodegeneration, with particular emphasis on genetic risk factors and lipid droplet biology in microglia. Her 2025 publications include landmark studies on limbic-predominant age-related TDP-43 encephalopathy clinical criteria, tau PET positivity across age and APOE genotype, white matter abnormalities in aging, and vascular contributions to dementia. She has also identified PICALM risk allele effects on aberrant microglial lipid droplets and 5-hydroxymethylcytosine alterations linked to Alzheimer’s neuropathology. Her research integrates genetics, neuroimaging, and molecular pathology to advance understanding of neurodegenerative disease mechanisms.
