Julie A. Saugstad is a Senior Professor at Oregon Health & Science University. Her research focuses on molecular neurodegeneration, specifically investigating extracellular vesicles, microRNA detection, and biomarkers in cerebrospinal fluid and plasma for Alzheimer’s disease and Niemann-Pick disease type C. Her recent work includes mapping extracellular RNA across human biofluids and developing multi-miRNA models for Alzheimer’s prediction. She has contributed to international consensus guidelines (MISEV2023) and published on tear proteomics in ocular pain. Her research advances non-invasive diagnostic approaches for neurodegenerative diseases.
