Juan P. Cata is a Senior Professor at The University of Texas MD Anderson Cancer Center. His research focuses on perioperative anesthesiology and outcomes research in surgical oncology, specifically examining how anesthetic and analgesic techniques—including intravenous patient-controlled analgesia and stellate ganglion block—influence cancer progression, postoperative pulmonary complications, and cardiac events. His recent work has explored the impact of perioperative proton pump inhibitors on renal cancer progression, lactate metabolic reprogramming in sepsis, and the sensitization of tumors to immune checkpoint blockade by SARS-CoV-2 mRNA vaccines. His findings have appeared in Nature, JAMA Surgery, and the British Journal of Anaesthesia, reflecting his international collaborative reach in perioperative medicine and cancer care.
