Joseph D. Butner is an Assistant Professor at The University of Texas MD Anderson Cancer Center. His research integrates systems biology, biomedical engineering, and mathematical bioscience to advance oncology and radiation therapy. He specializes in developing multiscale mechanistic models and hybrid deep-learning frameworks to predict tumor response and patient survival following immune checkpoint inhibitor immunotherapy. Recent work includes digital twins in healthcare, radiomic prediction of early tumor volume changes in high-grade glioma using elastic net regression, and optimization of gamma knife surgery combined with checkpoint blockade for melanoma brain metastases. His translational modeling addresses drug combinations with anti-microRNA-155 in non-small-cell lung cancer, bridging bench research and clinical cancer treatment.
