John McCormack is a Professor of Biology and Director and Curator of the Moore Laboratory of Zoology at Occidental College. His research integrates phylogenomics, molecular ecology, and museum genomics to investigate speciation, biogeography, and evolutionary diversification, particularly in avian and reptilian systems. Recent work includes UCE phylogenomics revealing orogenic vicariance and introgression in Mexican lizards, multispecies pangenomes linking population size to structural variation, and speciation with gene flow in island hummingbirds. He has secured major NSF funding, including a CAREER award integrating citizen science and museum genomics to explore century-scale changes in North American birds.
