John Bayouth is a Senior Professor at Oregon Health & Science University specializing in radiation oncology and medical physics. His research focuses on functional lung imaging, particularly 4D computed tomography ventilation-based techniques for functional lung avoidance radiation therapy in non-small cell lung cancer. He has pioneered methods to predict radiation-induced pneumonitis using metrics of dose to highly ventilated lung regions, and developed deep learning approaches, including ResNet generative adversarial networks, for pulmonary ventilation damage prediction and 4DCT artifact detection. His recent work includes clinical trials evaluating functional lung avoidance RT and quality assurance protocols for online adaptive radiotherapy. He also investigates magnetic resonance imaging applications in abdominal tumor radiotherapy, including gastrointestinal tract segmentation datasets. His research integrates respiratory medicine, radiology, and advanced imaging to improve precision in cancer treatment.
