Professor of Biochemistry & Molecular Genetics and Chemistry
Jarrod A. Marto is a Professor of Biochemistry & Molecular Genetics and Chemistry at the University of Virginia. He earned his B.S. from Centre College (1990) and his Ph.D. from The Ohio State University (1995), followed by postdoctoral training at the University of Virginia. Before his current appointment, he served as Principal Investigator at Dana-Farber Cancer Institute, Brigham and Women’s Hospital, and Harvard Medical School (2004–2025), where he also directed the Blais Proteomics Center and co-directed the Center for Emergent Drug Targets. His research integrates chemical biology, proteomics, and drug discovery, focusing on targeted protein degradation, ubiquitin signaling, and enzyme inhibition. Recent breakthroughs include developing proteasome cap-targeting chimeras for ubiquitination-independent degradation and elucidating noncanonical PRC1.1 regulation via USP7 in neuroblastoma. His work also explores tRNA modification in oncogenesis and molecular phenotyping of the Fallopian tube in BRCA-mutant carriers.
