James Katsis is a researcher at Rush University specializing in interventional pulmonology, respiratory medicine, and thoracic surgery. His research focuses on advanced bronchoscopic techniques for diagnosing indeterminate lung nodules, including navigational and robotic bronchoscopy, as well as transthoracic needle biopsy. He has recently published in the *New England Journal of Medicine* on navigational bronchoscopy versus transthoracic needle biopsy for lung nodules, and in *CHEST Journal* on venovenous extracorporeal membrane oxygenation support during high-risk bronchoscopy for malignant central airway obstruction. His work also encompasses pleural disease management, including indwelling pleural catheters for malignant effusions and pleurodesis outcomes, alongside novel applications of endobronchial ultrasound-guided fine-needle aspiration. His research integrates medical imaging, radiology, and cardiology to improve diagnostic and surgical outcomes.
