James A. Bankson is a Professor at The University of Texas MD Anderson Cancer Center, where he specializes in advanced magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) techniques for oncology. His research focuses on hyperpolarized carbon-13 pyruvate MRI and deuterium metabolic imaging to non-invasively assess tumor metabolism and therapeutic response. Recent work includes physiological interpretation of lactate-to-pyruvate ratios, quantitative imaging of pyruvate metabolism in anaplastic thyroid cancer, and consensus recommendations for multi-center hyperpolarized MRI studies. His contributions have advanced metabolic imaging biomarkers for cancer diagnosis and treatment monitoring.
