Associate Professor of Radiation Oncology in the Center for Radiological Research at the Columbia University Medical Center
Igor Shuryak is an Associate Professor of Radiation Oncology in the Center for Radiological Research at Columbia University Medical Center. His research integrates radiation biology, biostatistics, and machine learning to address critical challenges in radiation oncology and radiological protection. His recent work spans the biological effects of conventional and ultra-high dose rate radiation in human cells, wavelength-dependent DNA damage from UV-C radiation, and the application of causal machine learning to model radiotherapy and chemotherapy responses in lower-grade gliomas and breast cancer. He has also developed deep learning approaches for solid tumor incidence prediction and radiation risk assessment, and identified urinary and intracellular lymphocyte protein biomarkers for radiation-induced lung injury and early radiological triage. His interdisciplinary collaborations bridge experimental radiobiology with advanced computational modeling to improve cancer treatment outcomes and emergency preparedness.
