Hyemin Lee is a Senior Professor at The University of Texas MD Anderson Cancer Center. Her research integrates cell biology, tumor biology, and redox biology to investigate cancer metabolism and cell death regulation. Her recent work has focused on ferroptosis and cuproptosis, revealing mechanisms of therapy resistance, including cell cycle arrest-induced lipid droplet formation, IRE1α-mediated glutathione synthesis, and BRCA1-dependent ferroptosis regulation. Her 2025 study in *Cancer Cell* demonstrated that radiotherapy promotes cuproptosis and synergizes with cuproptosis inducers to overcome radioresistance. Her findings have identified novel therapeutic vulnerabilities, including GPX4 and PARP co-inhibition in BRCA1-deficient cancers, with implications for improving cancer treatment outcomes.
