Hui-Lin Pan is a High Senior Professor at The University of Texas MD Anderson Cancer Center. His research integrates neuroscience, neurophysiology, and neuropharmacology, focusing on pain mechanisms, opioid tolerance, and receptor physiology. His recent work has elucidated how EGFR activation sensitizes trigeminal NMDA receptors in oral cancer pain, characterized α2δ-1-linked NMDA and AMPA receptor assembly in neuropathic pain, and demonstrated Gαq signaling in primary sensory neurons driving opioid tolerance and hyperalgesia. He has also investigated electroacupuncture analgesia via cannabinoid CB1 receptor-mediated GABAergic inhibition, RCAN1-mediated calcineurin impairment in sympathetic outflow, and histone methyltransferase G9a regulation of inflammatory pain through bivalent histone modifications. His findings have been published in venues including Science Signaling, Circulation Research, Journal of Clinical Investigation, and Journal of Neuroscience.
