Hannes Jónsson is an Adjunct Professor of Chemistry (Research) at Brown University and a Professor in the Faculty of Physical Sciences at the University of Iceland. His research spans computational chemistry, condensed matter physics, and materials science, with a focus on CO₂ electroreduction mechanisms, saddle point search algorithms for excited electronic states, and the characterization of solvation shell dynamics in aqueous ions. Recent work includes studies on single-atom substituents in copper surfaces for CO adsorption, deformational isomerization dynamics probed by ultrafast X-ray scattering, and doping-induced enhancement of hydrogen evolution at MoS₂ electrodes. He maintains extensive international collaborations across Europe, North America, and Asia.
