Hamid A. Toliyat is a Professor of Electrical and Computer Engineering at Texas A&M University. He earned his Ph.D. from the University of Wisconsin-Madison in 1991, following an M.S. from West Virginia University and a B.S. from Sharif University of Technology. His research focuses on electric machines, power electronics, and drive systems, with recent work on axial flux permanent magnet motors for electric aircraft, pole-phase modulation in nine-phase brushless wound-field synchronous machines, and permanent magnet linear generators for wave energy converters. He also investigates physics-informed neural networks for induction motor parameter estimation and partial discharge detection using deep learning. Toliyat maintains extensive international collaborations across the US, Iran, South Korea, Europe, and Australia, and has secured funding for distributed energy systems research.
