Guillermina (Gigi) Lozano is a Senior Professor at The University of Texas MD Anderson Cancer Center, where she investigates tumor biology, oncogenes, and tumor suppressors. Her research focuses on mutant p53 gain-of-function mechanisms, Mdm2/Mdm4 regulation of p53 activity, and the genetic drivers of breast cancer progression. Her latest work, published in Cancer Discovery and Cancer Research, elucidates how mutant p53 exerts dominant-negative effects and identifies targeted degradation strategies to reverse oncogenic activity. She has also employed multi-omics approaches to define Trp53-driven metastatic breast cancer subtypes and cooperative genetic events in DCIS progression, with findings featured in PNAS and bioRxiv. Her contributions have advanced understanding of p53 biology and cancer genetics, shaping therapeutic approaches in oncology.
