Guangyao Si is a Senior Professor at the University of New South Wales. His research integrates rock mechanics, geomechanics, and coal geology to address critical challenges in mining engineering and geotechnical engineering. His recent work focuses on coal mine methane mitigation for carbon neutrality, the prevention of coal spontaneous combustion through novel materials, and the application of operator learning and deep neural networks for real-time longwall mine hazard prediction and mineral segmentation in rock CT images. He also investigates mining-induced seismic hazards and ventilation-spray coupled cooling mechanisms in deep thermal hazard tunnels. His research is supported by major grants, including an ARC Training Centre for Innovative Composites for Sustainable Mining Equipment and the SeeRock project on AI-driven rock mass characterisation.
