Guang Lei is a Senior Professor at The University of Texas MD Anderson Cancer Center. His research integrates cell biology, tumor biology, and molecular pharmacology to investigate regulated cell death pathways, particularly ferroptosis and cuproptosis, in cancer. His recent work has identified DHODH-mediated ferroptosis suppression as a driver of radioresistance in lung cancer and demonstrated that radiotherapy synergizes with cuproptosis inducers to overcome tumor resistance. He has also uncovered mechanisms of ferroptosis resistance via cell cycle arrest-induced lipid droplet formation and BRCA1-mediated dual regulation, proposing co-inhibition of GPX4 and PARP as a therapeutic vulnerability in BRCA1-deficient cancers. His publications appear in leading journals including Cancer Cell, Cancer Discovery, and Nature Communications, with ongoing contributions to ovarian cancer pharmacology and nasopharyngeal carcinoma therapeutics.
