Gautam Borthakur is a Professor of Medicine at The University of Texas MD Anderson Cancer Center. His research focuses on hematological malignancies, particularly acute myeloid leukemia (AML) and chronic myelomonocytic leukemia (CMML), with specific interests in targeted pharmacotherapy, drug resistance mechanisms, and clinical outcomes. His recent work includes developing the BLAST survival model for CMML, evaluating triplet regimens combining hypomethylating agents, venetoclax, and isocitrate dehydrogenase inhibitors for IDH-mutated AML, and investigating pharmacokinetic interactions between venetoclax and azole antifungals. He has also explored MERTK inhibition via RGX-019-MMAE for leukemia progression and characterized secondary-type AML responses to contemporary therapies. His contributions span clinical pharmacology, immunology, and translational cancer research, advancing treatment paradigms for myeloid neoplasia.
