Gabriel O. Sawakuchi is a Senior Professor at The University of Texas MD Anderson Cancer Center. His research focuses on radiation oncology, specifically radiation biology, particle therapy radiobiology, and cancer imaging. His recent work includes investigating glutamine metabolism inhibition combined with radiation to disrupt mitochondrial function and homologous recombination, as well as developing novel pencil-beam scanning proton lattice radiation therapy for bulky liver cancer. He has also explored alpha-particle radiotherapy combined with anti-CTLA-4 to overcome radioresistance in pancreatic ductal adenocarcinoma, and single-photon emission computed tomography functional liver imaging to facilitate reirradiation for liver malignancies. His publications appear in venues such as Cancer Research, Clinical Cancer Research, and The Cancer Journal.
