Florian Tornow is an Associate Research Scientist at the Center for Climate Systems Research in the Climate School at Columbia University. He earned his M.Sc. (2014) and Ph.D. (2018) from Freie Universität Berlin, followed by postdoctoral work at Columbia and NASA GISS. His research focuses on aerosol-cloud interactions, marine boundary layer clouds, and Arctic cold-air outbreaks, utilizing satellite remote sensing and in-situ observations. Recent work includes leading the COMBLE-MIP model-observation intercomparison, analyzing ice number concentration effects on boundary layer cloud evolution, and contributing to the NASA ACTIVATE mission. He also investigates aerosol hygroscopicity and new particle formation impacts on post-frontal clouds, alongside advancing 3D cloud radiative transfer techniques for top-of-atmosphere flux closure.
