Paul Fischer is a Professor in the Departments of Computer Science and Mechanical Science & Engineering at the University of Illinois Urbana-Champaign. His research centers on computational fluid dynamics, numerical methods for partial differential equations, and high-performance scientific computing, with a focus on spectral element methods and scalable iterative solvers. He leads the development of the open-source GPU-based code NekRS, applied to turbulent convection, thermal striping in nuclear reactors, and two-phase flows. Recent work includes exascale simulations on DOE leadership computers and reduced-order models for turbulent channel flow. Fischer received the R&D 100 Award for simulation software and collaborates with institutions across the US, Europe, and Asia.
