Filippo Mancia is a Professor of Physiology and Cellular Biophysics at Columbia University, where he also serves as Co-Director of Graduate Studies. He earned his PhD from the MRC Laboratory of Molecular Biology, Cambridge, UK, following undergraduate studies in chemistry in Pavia, Italy. His research focuses on the structural biology of membrane proteins, particularly lipid-linked glycosyltransferases, aminoarabinose transferase ArnT, and transporters such as MFSD2A, using X-ray crystallography and cryo-electron microscopy. Recent work has elucidated mechanisms of omega-3 fatty acid transport, mycobacterial cell wall arabinosylation, and PfCRT-mediated antimalarial drug resistance. He was named a Schaefer Research Scholar in 2016 and has contributed to high-throughput membrane protein production platforms at NYCOMPS and COMPPÅ.
