Gennady Fiksel is a Research Scientist at the University of Michigan, where he investigates high-energy-density plasma physics and laser-plasma interactions. He earned an MS from Novosibirsk State University (1975) and a PhD from the University of Wisconsin–Madison (1991). His current research focuses on proton deflectometry for magnetic field reconstruction in magnetized plasmas, collisionless shock formation driven by relativistic electrons, and magneto-Rayleigh-Taylor instabilities in plasma jets. Fiksel also explores astrobiology, studying UV-driven liposome evolution and prebiotic phosphorylation relevant to life's origins. A Fellow of the American Physical Society (2013), he previously served at the University of Rochester's Laboratory for Laser Energetics and maintains collaborations across the US, Europe, Japan, and Russia.
