Fabio Andrade is a Professor at the University of Puerto Rico–Mayaguez, where he specializes in systems engineering, smart grids, and electric power systems. His research focuses on DC microgrids, distributed energy generation, and energy management, with recent work exploring machine learning for power grid resilience, gray wolf optimization for AC microgrid economic performance, and Newton and quasi-Newton methods for bipolar DC networks with constant power loads. He has also investigated cybersecurity in multi-agent system-based adaptive protection, game theory for microgrid cluster energy management, and reinforcement learning for voltage and frequency regulation in islanded inverter-based microgrids. Andrade received a 2018 NSF Major Research Instrumentation award (USD 355,640) to develop a real-world microgrid simulation and testing instrument, supporting his contributions to advanced power delivery and grid stability research.
