Eric Patterson is an Assistant Professor and Weed Geneticist at Michigan State University, a position he has held since 2019. He earned his B.S., M.S., and Ph.D. from Colorado State University, followed by postdoctoral research at Clemson University. His research focuses on the evolutionary genomics of herbicide resistance, including the genetic mechanisms of metabolic detoxification in *Bassia scoparia* and the characterization of field-evolved resistance in *Spodoptera frugiperda*. Patterson has led chromosome-level genome assemblies for *Amaranthus* species, identifying sex-determining regions and developing molecular diagnostics for glyphosate and ALS-inhibitor resistance. His work involves extensive international collaborations across Germany, Australia, the United Kingdom, China, and Brazil.
