Emma R. Schachner is an Associate Professor of Research at Louisiana State University Health Sciences Center, New Orleans. Her research integrates anatomy, evolutionary biology, and vertebrate paleontology to investigate the morphological evolution of the avian respiratory system. Her recent work employs high-resolution micro-CT to map pulmonary anatomy, including three-dimensional studies of the zebra finch lung and embryonic pulmonary development in Squamata. She has published extensively on avian postcranial skeletal pneumaticity, unidirectional airflow, and the evolutionary origins of bird lungs, including a 2025 special issue in *Philosophical Transactions of the Royal Society B*. Her research also addresses the loss of pneumatization in secondarily aquatic archosaurs and the reconstruction of dinosaur physiology.
