Eliot Spindel is a Professor and Associate Professor of Behavioral Neuroscience and of Cell, Developmental and Cancer Biology at Oregon Health & Science University, where he also directs the ONPRC Molecular Technologies Service Core. His research integrates respiratory medicine, developmental biology, and epigenetics, focusing on the molecular mechanisms by which prenatal exposures—including maternal smoking, cannabis, and ambient air pollution—program lifelong risks for asthma, hypertension, and immune dysfunction. Recent breakthroughs include spatial transcriptomic mapping of dysregulated pro-inflammatory signaling in the aged lung, multigenerational asthma risk trajectories in the ECHO cohort, and DNA methylation signatures linked to prenatal pollution. His work also spans granulomatous cellular signatures in mycobacterial infections and lung microbial dysregulation in nontuberculous mycobacterial disease. He has published extensively in venues such as Circulation, ERJ Open Research, and Aging and Disease, with ongoing international collaborations in longitudinal cohort and animal-model studies.
