Dimitrios Karamichos is a High Senior Professor at the University of North Texas Health Science Center. His research focuses on ophthalmology, specifically keratoconus, corneal wound healing, and ocular surface disease, integrating biomedical engineering and tissue biology. His recent work investigates sphingolipid signaling in corneal repair, the therapeutic potential of extracellular vesicles and salivary exosomes for corneal epithelial regeneration, and the development of 3D corneal models using collagen bioinks. He also explores sex-dependent effects of chronic intermittent hypoxia on corneal fibrosis and inflammation. His contributions span experimental ophthalmology, dermatology, and advanced tissue engineering.
