David R. Grosshans, M.D., Ph.D., is a Professor in the Department of Radiation Oncology at The University of Texas MD Anderson Cancer Center. His research focuses on clinical radiation oncology, neuro-oncology, and the radiobiology of particle therapy, particularly proton therapy for brain tumors and gliomas. His recent work encompasses the radiobiology of particle therapy, preoperative versus postoperative stereotactic radiation therapy, and the molecular mechanisms of treatment-related brain toxicity, including tau-mediated repair responses and dopaminergic signaling disruption. He has also developed microdosimetric biological weighting functions to predict the relative biological effectiveness of proton and carbon ions. His investigations employ advanced models, including human cerebral organoids, to study tumor initiation and infiltration in the brain.
