David C. Rice is a Professor of Surgery and Thoracic Surgery at The University of Texas MD Anderson Cancer Center, where he serves as a high-ranking senior faculty member. His research focuses on thoracic oncology, specifically surgical management of lung cancer, bronchial neoplasms, and complex tracheal reconstruction. Recent work includes a classification system for oncologic trachea defect reconstruction, psychometric validation of symptom inventories for upper gastrointestinal cancers, and machine learning models predicting financial toxicity in resected lung cancer patients. He has also investigated the extent of resection in stage IV non-small cell lung cancer and Medicaid expansion's impact on treatment access. His translational research explores acquired resistance mechanisms to sotorasib in KRASG12C-mutant NSCLC, including PI3K-mTOR pathway inhibition, and CTLA4 blockade's role in overcoming KEAP1/STK11-related immunotherapy resistance. His work integrates surgical outcomes research with health policy and molecular oncology.
