Associate Research Scientist in the Department of Biomedical Engineering
Dashuai Zhu is an Associate Research Scientist in the Department of Biomedical Engineering at Columbia University. His research integrates biomedical engineering, nanomedicine, and immunology to develop advanced therapeutic platforms for cardiovascular and regenerative medicine. His recent work includes engineering bispecific exosome activators of T cells for immune checkpoint inhibitor-resistant metastatic melanoma (Nature Biotechnology, 2026), intrapericardially injected hydrogels loaded with stromal cell secretome microparticles for post-infarction myocardial repair in pigs (European Heart Journal, 2026), and inhalable bioadhesive barriers for lung protection against fine particulate matter (Bioactive Materials, 2026). He has also pioneered plant-derived photosynthetic hydrogel systems and immunomodulatory microneedle patches for myocardial infarction therapy, with publications in Nature Communications and Cell Biomaterials. His ongoing research focuses on smart biomaterials, extracellular vesicle delivery, and minimally invasive microneedle systems for internal organ targeting.
