Daniella C. Bardalez Gagliuffi is a Senior Professor at Amherst College. Her research centers on observational astronomy and stellar astrophysics, with a specific focus on the coldest brown dwarfs, known as Y dwarfs, and the characterization of directly imaged exoplanets. Her recent work includes the discovery of the second Y+Y dwarf binary system, CWISEP J193518.59-154620.3, and the analysis of the cold giant planet COCONUTS-2 b. She also employs advanced techniques, such as astronomical image time series segmentation, to detect faint, fast-moving objects in the search for nearby "backyard worlds." Her research utilizes space-based observatories, including the James Webb Space Telescope and the Hubble Space Telescope, to probe the atmospheres and populations of these cool neighbors.
