Senior Research Scientist
Daniel Savin is a Senior Research Scientist at Columbia University, where his research spans astrophysics, space science, and applied atomic physics. His work focuses on the solar corona, space weather, and the plasma chemistry of planetary and cometary environments. Recent publications include studies on ion sputtering from loose powders, point-spread functions for solar imagers on the Solar Orbiter and Solar Dynamics Observatory, and electron recombination of rotationally cold D2H+ ions. He has been awarded major grants for experimental investigations of Alfvén wave damping relevant to the solar corona and for developing laboratory instruments for gas-phase negative ion chemistry.
