Ciemon Caballes is an Assistant Professor of Ecophysiology at the University of Guam. His research focuses on the ecological physiology and management of Pacific crown-of-thorns starfish (Acanthaster cf. solaris), particularly population irruptions on Australia’s Great Barrier Reef. His recent work (2025–2026) in venues such as *Coral Reefs* and *Biology* advances scooter-assisted large-area diver-based (SALAD) survey methods, quantifies detectability for culling strategies, and assesses predation relative to fisheries management zones. Caballes also integrates sustainability science, environmental policy, and education into his research, addressing broader marine conservation challenges. His contributions inform evidence-based management of coral reef ecosystems and support international collaborations across the Indo-Pacific.
