Christopher Taylor is a Senior Professor at Louisiana State University Health Sciences Center, New Orleans. His research focuses on clinical microbiology, the human microbiome, and infectious disease pathogenesis, with particular emphasis on gut microbial dysbiosis, host-microbe interactions, and mucosal immunology. Recent breakthroughs include demonstrating that down-regulation of acyloxyacyl hydrolase impairs LPS detoxification in Alzheimer’s disease, contributing to neuroinflammation, and showing that dietary fiber modulates gut microbiota and lipid metabolism to ameliorate Alzheimer’s pathology in 5xFAD mice. He has also investigated how oral Limosilactobacillus reuteri alters lung inflammatory transcripts via the gut-lung axis in Treg-deficient mice, and characterized vaginal microbiota changes in transgender men receiving testosterone therapy. His work on bacterial vaginosis highlights roles for Gardnerella species, Prevotella bivia, and Fannyhessea vaginae, while his NLRC4 deficiency studies reveal regulatory effects on macrophage and T-cell responses during sepsis. His international collaborations include quality improvement research on sexually transmitted infection treatment in South African primary healthcare facilities.
