Charles Wood is a High Senior Professor at Louisiana State University Health Sciences Center, New Orleans. His research integrates virology, immunology, and epidemiology, with a focus on HIV-1 subtype diversity and its role in neuroHIV pathogenesis, as well as viral reservoirs in tissues such as the appendix. He investigates human papillomavirus genotype distribution in cervical cancer among HIV-positive women in Tanzania, Kaposi sarcoma-associated herpesvirus humoral responses, and the impact of cannabis use on proviral burden and inflammatory cytokines in clade C HIV-1. His recent work also employs antibody profiling and predictive modeling to distinguish Kaposi sarcoma from asymptomatic KSHV infection, alongside microbiome studies of ocular surface squamous neoplasia.
