Catherine S. McFadden is a Senior Professor of Biology at Harvey Mudd College. Her research integrates systematics, phylogenetics, and evolutionary biology to address the taxonomy and biogeography of octocorals (soft corals). Her recent work includes describing new species and genera from the Andaman Sea and Isla del Coco, re-examining type material of Xenia and Sinularia, and documenting the invasive range expansion of Chromonephthea in the southwest Atlantic. She has led major NSF-funded projects, including a collaborative phylogenomics initiative on Anthozoa and an integrative approach to species delimitation in Indo-Pacific zooxanthellate octocorals.
