Carsten Schultz is a Professor of Chemical Physiology and Biochemistry and Chair of the Department at Oregon Health & Science University, where he also holds the Helen Jo Whitsell Dean's Leadership Professorship. His research focuses on signal transduction and cell signaling, with recent work decoding protein-phospholipid interaction networks in cancer and acyl-chain remodeling. He has published on localized GLP1 receptor pre-internalization directing pancreatic alpha-to-beta cell communication, lipid probes for studying ion channels, and integrated lipidomic and proteomic profiling revealing metabolic disruption by SARS-CoV-2 variants. His investigations also include neuro-selective estrogen receptor modulation of mitochondrial VDAC and sex-specific islet fragmentation dynamics.
