Carl Ziegler is a Senior Professor at Stephen F. Austin State University. His research focuses on observational astronomy, exoplanet detection and characterization, stellar astrophysics, and planetary systems, with a particular emphasis on M dwarf hosts and planetary change. His recent work includes the discovery of two temperate Earth- and Neptune-sized planets orbiting fully convective M dwarfs and the characterization of TOI-1080 b, a temperate rocky planet around a quiet M4V host. He also led studies on eleven new transiting brown dwarfs and very-low-mass stars from TESS, and analyzed large transit timing variations in the TOI-4504 system, which hosts two resonant warm gas giants. His publications appear in leading journals such as Monthly Notices of the Royal Astronomical Society, The Astronomical Journal, and The Astrophysical Journal Letters.
