Anna Whitfield is the William Neal Reynolds Distinguished Professor of Entomology and Plant Pathology at North Carolina State University. She earned her Master of Science from the University of California-Davis and her doctorate from the University of Wisconsin. Her research focuses on molecular virology, specifically virus-vector interactions, thrips transmission of tomato spotted wilt virus (TSWV), and resistance-breaking strains in tomato. Recent work includes CRISPR/Cas9 genome editing of *Frankliniella occidentalis*, RNAi-mediated gene silencing in *Peregrinus maidis*, and developing LAMP and CRISPR-Cas12a assays for TSWV detection. She received an NSF CAREER award for her work on virus-vector molecular mechanisms and collaborates extensively with institutions across the US, Australia, Brazil, Europe, and Asia.
