Anna L. Jacobsen is a Professor of Biology at California State University, Bakersfield. Her research integrates ecology, plant physiology, and biomechanics to investigate xylem structure and function, particularly vessel network architecture, embolism resistance, and sap flow dynamics in woody and shrub species. Recent work examines intraspecific variation in xylem vessel traits in saltbush shrubs (*Atriplex* spp.), leaf heat tolerance in native Californian shrubs, and the biomechanics of arborescent monocotyledons, with implications for shrubland resilience under altered disturbance regimes. She received the NSF CAREER Award (2013) for research on xylem vessel network development and function.
