Andy Futreal is a high senior professor at The University of Texas MD Anderson Cancer Center. His research focuses on cancer genomics, tumor biology, and oncogenes, with particular emphasis on mutational landscapes, cancer susceptibility genes, and tumor immune microenvironments. His recent work has identified germline variants in mucosal melanoma, conserved spatial subtypes of cancer-associated fibroblasts, and evolutionary fingerprints of epithelial-to-mesenchymal transition. He has also contributed to studies demonstrating that SARS-CoV-2 mRNA vaccines sensitize tumors to immune checkpoint blockade and that cancer-induced nerve injury promotes anti-PD-1 therapy resistancevl. His investigations further encompass early-onset colorectal cancer genomics and immune, mutation, and gut microbiome features associated with glioblastoma survival, integrating single-cell spatial multi-omics and prospective clinical trial data to advance precision oncology.
